Building renovations include new electrical services and a high-efficiency 25 kW solar photovoltaic (PV) system. The 25-kilowatt solar energy system will generate enough electricity equivalent to powering almost three average homes annually.
The system is expected to produce 30,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of clean, solar energy in its first year of operation, which is enough to offset any electric needed for the building's house meter. Over 25 years, the solar energy system is expected to produce enough energy to offset more than 700 tons of carbon dioxide, which is the equivalent to planting 17,000 trees or saving 72,000 gallons of gasoline.
